Description:
Join Ojai’s own vocal coach, musician and performing artist Rebecca Comerford on a musical trekking adventure through the natural environs of Ojai. These one day singing journeys are offered as a practical, hands on experiences, modeled from her seven-step “Singing Journey Guidebook,” whereby each destination along the journey allows you to come into deeper dialogue with your own voice to harness it’s potential in relationship to the natural world, through a process of deep exploration and adventure.
Adventure Singing - To the Trees:
Trees carry their own neural network that is imprinted through their ancestry. We are neural networks of frequency by nature and much like the trees who give us breath, these ancestral frequencies and tendencies carry with them a deep knowing.
This four hour day journey “To the Trees” will explore how the sounds we make with our own bodies, voices and musical impulses can often be linked to our layered ancestral sounds and musical inheritances. How do we sound like our parents, grandparents, ancestors and how are we different? Where does our natural voice come from, how is singing our personal birthright and what are the modes of expression we hold onto through generational and cultural inheritance? How do these shift and move through us and what kind of modes, melodies and ancestral expression can we reclaim to find deeper connection to this inheritance? Traditional music from one’s ancestry will be explored alongside practical and group exercises to bring us into deeper connection to our inherited sound. This adventure is open to all peoples ages 12 and older and will require moderate level of journeying. Each participant will also be gifted with the 7 step interactive Singing Journey Guidebook and Singing Adventure Map.

About Your Instructor and Guide:
Rebecca Comerford, is an award winning vocalist, lyricist, actor and songwriter. She runs an active vocal studio in Ojai where her coaching technique focuses on the traditions of Bel Canto, Feldenkrais Method, Somatic Singing and years of collective and interdisciplinary practice.
Rebecca is an avid hiker and river lover, finding inspiration for her singing and compositions grounded in her deep connectivity to nature. The Singing Journey Guidebook is her latest expression as both a coach and creative to bring a loving, hands-on approach to singing. Fusing aspects of traditional Italian technique alongside exercises to blend nervous system regulation with the mystical qualities of the natural world into one exploratory journey, her offerings allow for play, deep expression and empowerment to take shape.
