Description:

Let's play! We invite the clown within you to come roaring into the light—bold, unguarded, and playful. Let that raw, instinctive part of you rise, where courage meets play and discovery. Your clown, after all, is the artist at their purest: imaginative, open-hearted, and bursting with life! We'll lead you through a series of exercises and movements to begin to awaken your unique inner clown.

As master clown teacher Christopher Bayes says, "Clown is a rediscovery of self. The playful self. The ferocious self. The vulnerable self. The artist."

What to Bring:

  • A water bottle
  • Clothes you can freely move in!

Provided:

  • Snack
  • Silliness

About the Instructors:

Kelsey & Ivana met in NYC twenty years ago, and they have been collaborating since! Kelsey has directed Ivana through multiple productions—from Galapagos Art Space to the Bushwick Star—they developed a full-length work with an ensemble of 8, rooted in clown under the direction of Per Brahe of the Yale School of Drama. What emerged was a wildly imaginative piece titled, Who Is Afraid of a Hot Glass Cat Named Desire?, a work that expanded them as artists, and brought them even closer together. They are excited to offer the first Find Your Clown workshop of what will be an on-going series!

Kelsey Siepser is a multi-hyphenate artist fascinated by how we grow, change, and occasionally fall flat on our face. A committed MakeBeliever, their clown training fuels the original work they make and their belief that failure is one of our most generous teachers. Kelsey developed and taught a clown class for NYFA’s BFA program and teaches at Emerson College LA. They’ve created performance work at Galapagos Art Space, The Bushwick Starr, and with Son of Semele and Superhero Clubhouse. Kelsey holds an MFA from USC.

Ivana Karapandzic has long been captivated by the art of clown—ever since her very first day (20 years ago) at The Actor's Center in NYC in clown class, which ended in tears. What felt like rock-bottom failure revealed itself as the heart of the work: the courage to rise, to risk, and to offer oneself, fully and without defense, again and again and again. Ivana has trained under several master teachers, including Orlando Pabotoy, Lucas Caleb Rooney, David Bridel and Christopher Bayes.
