Learn How to Make Gumbo: with Scott Daigre, Fran Chamberlain, and Sam Hamann has been CANCELED due to impending weather.

Location: This workshop will be held at a private home within the Ojai City limits. Exact location will be revealed once purchased. 

Description:
After the parades roll down Crescent City streets on Fat Tuesday, and everybody in Louisiana is exhausted and stumbling home covered in shiny beads. Many will gather around the gumbo pot, tell stories, and toast the day.

We'll carry on that tradition, Ojai style! Learn how to make a roux, a rich, tasty chicken stock, and join in when we discuss the myriad ways to make delicious gumbo. And then of course, we will chow down.

Scott, Fran, and Sam will be ready to let the good times roll with this decadent Louisiana celebration, highlighted by Scott's chicken and andouille gumbo and Fran,Fran's wildly successful vegetarian version!

Whoever wins our Mardi Gras trivia game will take home a copy of Melissa Martin’s (Mosquito Supper Club) new book, BAYOU.

Expect some extra-special Louisiana foodie surprises, fun extras, and real Cajun good times. Fran's working on the playlist!

Wine and beer are on us, and maybe even just a little sample of a true New Orleans Hurricane or Sazerac cocktail. We’ll see what feels most festive.

*If you have any shellfish allergies, please let us know by calling or texting Scott (number below) in advance so we can accommodate you, because otherwise we just might toss some crawfish or shrimp into that gumbo at the last minute. That’s sort of how those things happen!

About the Hosts:
Friends for decades and now neighbors in downtown Ojai, your hosts are all avid foodies and experienced home cooks/chefs who also share an affinity for the food of South Louisiana and gumbo in particular. 

Scott is a Louisiana native who was raised by great family cooks. Fran and Sam are honorary Cajuns who can both cook up a mean southern meal. Gumbo(s) at this event are inspired by Melissa Martin and John Folse, (and Scott’s mom and grandmother!) notable Louisiana Chefs who will be discussed during the event. 

And Fran has mastered a vegetarian “Ojai-style” gumbo that Scott didn’t ever think was possible!
